Welcome Home Troops introduces Dr. Earl R. Henslin
Dr. Earl R. Henslin
During WWII men, women and children around our country sacrificed to buy war bonds, so our soldiers had everything they needed to win the battle against evil. If communities across our great nation had not sacrificed, prayed, and given in tangible ways WWII would have been lost. The Great War to end all wars was won, and returning soldiers were greeted with parades, and victory celebrations. WWII is now over 60 years behind us, and the majority of the people in our country only know of WWII through lessons in history, movies, and TV. Rarely do people take the time to hear the stories of the veterans of WWII, who are gradually dying …a generation ending just like the Civil war generation was disappearing in 1908.
Now every man, woman, and child in the United States has that same opportunity again to open their hearts and minds to welcome the soldiers that are returning from Iraq, and Afghanistan. It is a different kind of welcoming because this is not a war at the moment that looks like it will end with a victory celebrations like were experienced after WWII. It is a welcoming where hopefully God will open the hearts of our communities across the nation to our returning heroes. Heroes and their families that need support, and encouragement as they re-enter society. There are many of those heroes that are already home. Some with the obvious wounds that people can see. The hero in the wheel cheer, or the man or woman who lost a limb. Then there are the heroes with the invisible wounds. The invisible wounds of PTSD, that can be the cause of more deaths as the years go on than the actual death that occurred during a time of war.
Welcome Home Troops, would like to invite you to a one hour seminar on “Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: Hope and Healing. Our goal is to prepare communities to help the vet that has already come home, and to help the returning vet to re-enter their families, homes, and communities. Dr. Earl R. Henslin will be sharing with us about the signs and symptoms of PTSD, the impact of PTSD on the returning hero’s health, relationships, and career. Dr. Henslin has worked with veterans helping them with PTSD for the past 30+ years. He has had the opportunity to work with veterans from WWII to present. Dr. Henslin has a strong commitment to helping the communities and churches to work together for healing. He has worked closely with Daniel Amen, M.D. for the past 12 years in utilizing brain imaging to help target the appropriate interventions to help people who struggle with the impact of trauma. Dr. Henslin will show both before and after scans of survivors of trauma. You will walk away from this seminar with a deeper compassion for our heroes and their families ….armed with new tools to help the men and women who have and are serving our country.
